Attorney Marketing Tips: Reasons To Blog

Among the many options you have as a Lawyer starting to create an internet presence, you could do much worse than start with a blog.

Blogging has several advantages over creating a full blown website:

  • Cheap. Blogging software such as Wordpress is free, and you can even have them host the blog for you (Wordpress.com or Blogger.com for options). Investment: $0.
  • Good for SEO. Blogs send out pings to search crawlers whenever updated, making your pages get indexed faster and better, which means better visibility on search engines.
  • Good for SEO (no, really). Even better. The nature and shape of a blog is easily optimized for search engines. As each entry tends to deal with a specific topic with a short amount of focused text and gets its own page and keyword rich meta tags, they are practically optimized out of the box to perform well, so long as you write some good text.
  • Natural Communication. Blogs allow you to use your personal voice to share your experience, ideas, opinions, etc, as they concern your field of practice. Talking naturally about what you know shouldn’t be too time consuming or painful.

If you’re just testing the waters, try a free service and get posting. If you feel good with the medium and are seeing interest generated, it might be a good idea to take the next step and get a custom design and setup created for you that can really be used to grow your practice: services that have CRM (Contact Relationship Manager) and other goodies bundled in that help you target, communicate, and grow your web community.

But test the waters first, without spending a dime.
