Webmasters must understand the powerfully important concept of keyword competition if they ever expect to become successful. That is an undeniable fact of Internet marketing basics. Here are some tips to help develop that understanding:
 1.   Keyword competition is an observation of the differing levels of competitiveness over given keywords by those engaged in pay-per-click advertising campaigns.
2.  Very popular keywords that receive hundreds of thousands of searches per month will cost more to use as they are more competitive.
3.  Keywords that get only a few hundred searches every month are considered less competitive and therefore cost less to use.
4.  There are a lot of free usage keyword analyzing tools available online. Just do search for “free keyword tools” and you’ll get a load to choose from.
5.  Check the number of paid ads for a given keyword. If there are a lot of paid ads for that keyword, then it is probably a profitable one to consider using.
6.  You can download the Google Toolbar for free. It will tell the page rank for any given page that you surf to on a scale of PR0 to PR10. Page rank on Google is a good indicator of the competition rating of a given keyword. Generally, if the top 30 sites have PR5 or higher, then you may want to consider other keywords that would be less competitive.
