Google Tips: How Important are Inbound Links?

Optimizing your website to rank high in Google is done by completing a series of different steps and techniques, then doing them again, and again. Keeping fresh and active in your SEO is important, and some say one of the deciding factors is the key for competing for competitive keywords: Inbound Links.

Optimizing a website with keywords and good semantic HTML will get you ranking pretty well in Google on most keywords, but if you’re competing for those most prized of all keywords, then Google wants to see you site linked to (with good keywords in the link tags) from big communities and other quality sites on the web.

Some go as far as to say that this link popularity is really at the entire core of Google’s ranking algorithms (of which there are many).

If you’re trying to rank high on competitive keywords, make sure you’re getting your website’s link into large, high quality communities. Digg, StumbleUpon, related forums, etc. Any site that is related and has a large audience and quality content should be in your sights. This will help you stand out and rise above those other competitors, and start showing up on page 1 for those most difficult of keywords to win.
