More than other search engines, Google considers your link popularity to be very, very important.
What’s this mean? If similar sites of value aren’t linking to you, you’re nobody. On the other side, if they are, you must be some hot stuff, welcome to spot #1.
Link building isn’t easy, but it can be pretty straightforward. If you’ve never thought of doing it, give these tips a try.
- Search Google for your Keywords or similar keywords. The idea here is to get a list together of bloggers, directories, and other websites that are related to your keywords and content. The higher they rank, the better, but don’t be afraid to look on page 2, 3, 4, etc of the results.
- Start with Bloggers. Bloggers might be easier to start with. Instead of contacting a generic website, you know a Blogger’s personality, tastes, and temperament by reading over their blog. After reading their content, send them a polite email introducing your website. It’s best to have a relevant article or eBook that their audience would appreciate. Ask them to link to it, and offer to do the same for them.
- Rinse and Repeat. Always be on the lookout for other sites that are experiencing success and are related to your topic and keep in touch with them. Remember to be polite and respectful, but not needy. You’re a professional, too, and you’re offering them something, not just asking for a freebie.
