The question they should be asking is not where they get the most referrals but are they getting the most possible referrals? Whether expanding a firm or becoming more selective with the cases you take lawyers and marketers must introduce their firms to the twenty-first century and realize word of mouth marketing means blogs, e-mail marketing, websites, search engine optimization and more!
People used to ask friends and neighbors about attorneys because they had no other source of finding the name and number of an attorney unless they could remember where they last used the telephone book to stand on to reach something high. Over the last decade people have turned to the Internet to research attorneys and choose the law firm to call.Â
Last month over 800 people searched the term “Tampa criminal lawyer” on Google and Yahoo! alone. Over 1200 people searched the term “Tampa estate planning” on Google and Yahoo! last month. For those law firms in Tampa, I ask you do you think 800 clients or 1200 clients were referred to your firm through word of mouth advertising last month?
Get the word out, but get it out where it really matters. Online.
