Optimize for Google: Learn How To Spell

When optimizing your website to rank well on Google there are literally hundreds of things you should or should not do. Keyword density, the use of semantic HTML, choosing good titles, and many more are frequently discussed here and else where.

But what about spelling?

With all the strategizing and tweaking of technologies to make your site an SEO Hercules, it can be easy to overlook what is perhaps the simplest foundation of your web site’s ranking: spelling.

You might have a 50% keyword density, but if those keywords are misspelled, they aren’t doing too much good, are they?

Most Content Managing Systems (like Wordpress, Joomla, etc) have plugins that let you do a spell check right in their editors. Use them.

If your CMS does not support this sort of plugin, draft your articles and content in a word processor that does have the functionality.

Most importantly, re-read what you write slowly, and if it is really important, read it out loud.

Once you’re sure it’s all good as far as your spelling, then start thinking about the other tools and tricks you can use to increase the SEO.
