So, you got excited about getting a website, who knows where you got the idea. You found a web design company and they told you all the good things that a website can do, how much money you’ll make, how you’ll be number one on google, etcetera etcetera…
But nothing happened.
What’s the problem?
Many people who get talked into launching their own website usually don’t know how the internet really works, or how their website can actually function to improve their business. Well, it certainly can, and will, if you do it the right way, but it doesn’t just happen on its own.
Sadly, you can’t just publish a website and expect people to start coming. Yeah, it’s more work than we thought at first. We actually have to DO something to get our traffic.
But it’s worth it.
Don’t give up on the internet yet
More and more homebuyers are using the internet to find their homes every day. Even when searching locally, the most convenient, time-efficient way to look at options is by using the internet. Eventually, most buyers will want to visit the house and see it in person, but the search begins on the net.
This is not going to change. If anything, the internet will only continue to play a bigger role.
Keep your website, but start using it correctly. Do you have your properties listed and organized neatly with lots of photos? No? Get to it. How about having some good, SEO rich content written? SE-what? Okay, find a copywriter or do some research on the net and write them yourself. Did you register the site with Google, Yahoo, and in as many web directories (like dmoz.org) as possible? No? Do it!
There are a lot of simple, quick things that can be done to start getting traffic to your site. One of the simplest ways is by putting a link to your homepage in your email footer. That’s all. Get the site’s heart beating with some local traffic, direct walk-in clients to your site to browse your catalogue, it saves you both time and money, and lets potential buyers find what they’re looking for with less hassle.
A website is not like a statue. It isn’t created and left there for show. It is a tool, a dynamic, living and breathing tool that needs a little bit of attention and upkeep to keep it happy. By just carrying out some of the simple tips above, you’ll start seeing traffic come into to your website, and it will take you all of a few hours to do, and most likely cost you nothing.
So don’t give up, get interested, and start utilizing your most powerful asset to its maximum potential.
