Yahoo Wants To Mesh Internet and Television

After various rumors and online whispers Yahoo has unveiled plans to mesh the power of the Internet with Television.

Eric Kim, Intel Senior VP at Yahoo, vowed that television “would no longer be a passive experience unless the viewer wants it that way.”

“This effort is one of what we believe will be many exciting new ways to bring the Internet to the TV, and it really shows the potential of what consumers can look forward to.”

The idea is that television set would come with some sort of computer software, allowing users to view stocks, message friends and watch internet based videos on their home televisions.

A successful meshing of the two would have serious potential for online advertisers and start-ups looking to make the most of the platform.

However, a precise launch date has yet to be announced or even determined. Some of the companies involved in the creation of the widget computer apps for the tvs include: Twitter, Toshiba, Samsun, eBay, CBS, Blockbuster and Disney-ABC Television Group.
